1. B V P Rao elected as president of Archery Association of India
B V P Rao was elected as the President of Archery
Association of India(AAI),the election was held under the Supervision of former
Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Quraishi. Maha Singh was elected as secretary
of Archery Association of India,D K Vidyarthi was elected as the treasurer.
Sunil Sharma was elected senior vice-president and Rajendra Singh Tomar and
Purnima Mahato will be the vice presidents. BVP Rao earlier served as vice
president of the archery association of the northeastern state. He was also
earlier associated with Sports Authority of India in various capacities.
2. Seven day 37th Senior National Rowing Championship held in Pune
The seven days 37th Senior National Rowing
Championship concluded at Army Rowing Node, College of Military Engineering in Pune.
The competition consisted of categories of: 2000 meters and 500 meters. It was
inaugurated by Lt General Michael Mathews. The Army Team emerged as the
champions in 2018 and was followed by the Services team that came in second.
This year, 498 rowers from 24 teams of various States (except West Bengal) and
Associations competed in approximately 200 races over last four days.
3. Nightingale of Assam singer Dipali Borthakur passed away at 77
She was a Padma Shri recipient in 1998 and was also
known as “Asomiya Lata Mangeshkar.” She was honored with The Axiom Srestho by
The Telegraph, Silipi Bota (2010) and Aideu Handique Silpi Award (2012) among
others.
4. Fifteenth Global SME Business Summit in New Delhi
The 15th edition of a two day Global SME Business
Summit was organized by the Ministry of MSME and Confederation of Indian
Industry (CII) in association with Government e-marketplace in New Delhi.
The theme of the event was ‘Building Partnerships through Global Value Chains.’
The agenda of the summit was to bring together renowned speakers with unbounded
experience and expertise, a global audience, and various national and international
SME stakeholders to integrate Indian MSMEs into the Global Value Chains (GVCs).
5. Indian Railways launches new EMU train with 130 kmph speed
Railway passengers will soon get another high-tech
train from the stable of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF). The new train
–Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) –commonly known as an electric train, running
at a speed of 130 Kmph is ready for its trial launch. The EMU train with higher
passenger capacity already set off for Delhi (December 19), Sudhanshu Mani,
General Manager.
6. A UNESCO Category 2, International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography, inaugurated at INCOIS, Hyderabad
Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth
Sciences, Environment and Forests & Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan will
inaugurate the newly constructed International Training Centre for Operational
Oceanography (ITCOocean) Complex in the INCOIS campus at Hyderabad on 22nd
December 2018. Union Minister will dedicate ITC Ocean to the Former Prime
Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had contributed significantly to the
growth of science and technology in the country. On the occasion, Dr. Vardhan
will also name the academic building as Atal Bhavan and the Guest House as Atal
Atithi Griha.
7. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao field level awareness campaign for Maharashtra, Goa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli launched
“Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” will be organized in
Maharashtra, Goa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli to spread awareness among people
to save and educate girls. The Campaign will be organized by the Pune office of
Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting,
Government of India in coordination with Women and child development departments
of respective state and Union Territory (UT). The campaign was launched by Ms.
Gauri Gadgil who is a ‘divyang’ child and an international swimmer by placing
her fingers on traditional instrument ‘Dholak’.
8. Delhi records 2nd Highest Pollution Level in 2018
While the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
data showed the overall air quality index (AQI) at ‘severe’ level of 450, the
Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting (SAFAR) showed a
higher level at 471. This is the second highest pollution level this year. The
highest was recorded on November 8, a day after Diwali, when the AQI touched
571. An AQI between 100 to 200 comes under the 'moderate' category, 201 and 300
is considered 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', while that between 401 and 500 is
'severe'.
9. NGT bans mining within 10 km of Sariska Tiger
Reserve
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has banned all
mining activities within 10 km of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. The
order was issued following a plea challenging the environmental clearance
granted to 24 mines within the 10 km radius. The Supreme Court in 2006 had
prohibited mining within 1 km of national parks and sanctuaries.
10. ICC asks BCCI to pay Rs 161 crore compensation or lose rights to host 2023 World Cup
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has been
involved in some legal battles of late. International Cricket Council (ICC)
asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to either pay $23
million (Rs 161 crore) by the end of this year as compensation for the tax
deductions incurred in hosting the 2016 World T20 or end up losing the World
Cup 2023 rights. India is supposed to host the 2021 Champions Trophy and the
2023 World Cup, which again would come under jeopardy if BCCI fails to meet
ICC's demands.
11. PM Modi releases Rs 100 commemorative coin in honour of ex-PM Vajpayee
On the eve of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 94th birth
anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a ₹100
commemorative coin in the memory of the former premier. The front of the Rs 100
coin features the National Emblem of India along with ‘Satyamev Jayate’ in
Devanagari script inscribed below. The reverse side of the Rs 100 coin features
a portrait of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The former PM’s name is written in both
Hindi and English. The new Rs 100 coin is an alloy of silver, copper, nickel
and zinc.
12. UP tops in atrocities by police
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB),
Uttar Pradesh registered 236 cases against police personnel for human rights
violations between 2014 and 2016, the highest in the country's total of 411
such cases during the same period. Uttar Pradesh was followed by Delhi where 63
cases of atrocities by police personnel were registered in the same period. The
cases of human rights violations by police personnel include disappearance of
persons, illegal detention or arrests, fake encounter killings, extortion,
assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty, atrocities on scheduled
castes, scheduled tribes, torture among others.
13. UAE to give Pakistan USD 3 billion amid financial crisis
United Arab Emirates (UAE) will deposit $3 billion
in Pakistan's central bank to support its financial and monetary policy. The
UAE's support comes amid the current financial crisis in Pakistan. The transfer
of 11 billion dirhams (USD 3 billion) by the government-owned Abu Dhabi Fund
for Development (ADFD) to State Bank of Pakistan is expected to be carried out
in the 'coming days'.
14. Jharkhand CM announced Rs 2,250 crore scheme for farmers
Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das announced a ₹2,250
crore scheme to help 22.76 lakh small and marginal farmers of the state. Named
Mukhyamantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana, the scheme will provide farmers with a
yearly financial assistance of ₹5,000 per acre for
Kharif crops. The scheme will start from 2019-20 financial year.
15. Odisha Government announced Rs. 10,000 Crore Scheme for Farmers Development
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announced a ₹10,000
crore scheme named Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation
(KALIA), which will provide farmers with ₹10,000 a year at
the rate of ₹5,000
each for Kharif and Rabi season. Additionally, crop loans of up to ₹50,000
will be interest-free under the scheme.
16. Indias Forex Reserves declined by USD 613.9 million to USD 393.12 billion
India’s foreign exchange reserves declined in this
week by USD 613.9 million reaching USD 393.12 billion. This decline attributed
to the fall. The Forex reserves increased by USD 16.6 million to reach USD
393.734illion in the previous week.
