National News
1. Madhya Pradesh Tourism first in Asia to hosts Adventure Next 18
· Chief
Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat announced to recruit over
one thousand male and female Home Guards in the State. He also approved
increase allocation in the welfare fund for the dependents of the Home Guards
soldiers, who sacrificed their lives on duty.
2. NDRF provides Rs 3,719 cr assistance to Kerala, Nagaland, Andhra
· From
the National Disaster Response Fund, Rs 3,048.39 crore will be
provided to Kerala, Rs 131.16 crore to Nagaland
and Rs 539.52 crore to Andhra Pradesh, that
were affected by floods, landslides and cyclone over the past few months.
· The
decision was taken in a committee meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath
Singh.
3. Gowda said Govt is to clear fertiliser subsidy arrears Rs 10K crore by March
· Union
Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Sadananda Gowda said that
the fertilizer subsidy arrears to the industry have come down by 75% to
Rs.10,000 crore in the last four years and the outstanding amount is
expected to be cleared by March.
· Mr.Gowda
also said that the Central government will also not raise the Minimum
Retail Price (MRP) of urea to protect farmers interest. He also said
the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme in the fertilizer
sector has been a great success as 55 million tonnes of nutrients have been
sold to 138 million farmers through around 2 lakh PoS
machines.
4. Pune District Court first in India to accept e-payments
· After
the approval of the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court, a pilot project
for e-payments of court fee, judicial deposits, fines and
penalties is slated to start from the Pune District Court complex
in Shivajinagar on December 15.
· This
will be the first time such a facility is being started anywhere
in the country. As per the court records, every month about Rs 32 lakh is
collected for fees less than Rs 2,000 and transactions above Rs 2,000 amount to
Rs 11 crore.
5. Centre approved SCord to tackle smuggling
· In
an attempt to tackle smuggling, the Central government has approved
Anti-Smuggling National Coordination Centre (SCord) under the Directorate of
Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
· All
the border agencies like BSF, ITBP, Assam Rifles, SSB and Coast Guards would be
the members of SCord, which will help India to formulate a national
anti-smuggling policy.
International News
1. Exim Bank Extends USD 500 mn Loan To Tanzania
· Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) has extended a credit facility of USD 500
million to Tanzania for water supply projects
in the country. Exim Bank signed an agreement in May 2018, with the Tanzania
government for making available a Government of India-supported
line of credit of USD 500 million for the purpose of financing water supply
schemes.
· Under this agreement, of the total credit by Exim
Bank, goods and services of the value of at least 75% of the
contract price shall be supplied by the seller from India.

1. Professor Rattan Lal honoured with Glinka World Soil Prize 2018
· Rattan Lal,
a distinguished university professor of soil science at the Ohio State
University, has won the Glinka World Soil Prize 2018 in a
ceremony at the Rome headquarters of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization
(FAO) for his outstanding contribution to sustainable soil
management.
· The
Glinka World Soil Prize, named after the pioneering Russian scientist Konstantin
D. Glinka, is considered the highest honour in the soil science
profession. Rattan Lal has been listed among the World's Most
Influential Scientific Minds (2012) and among the top one percent of
all researchers in agriculture.

1. HDFC ERGO Announces Corporate Agency Tie-up with Federal Bank
· HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company,
India’s leading private sector general insurance company, and Federal Bank,
announced tie-up for the distribution of HDFC ERGO’s range of non-life
insurance offerings to the customers of the Bank through its network branches.
This Corporate Agency Tie-up offers comprehensive Insurance solutions to

1. NASA's 'OSIRIS-REx' reached to asteroid Bennu
· NASA’s
‘Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification,
Security-Regolith Explorer’ (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft
arrived at the asteroid named ‘Bennu’ on 3rd December 2018. The
spacecraft’s mission involves a close-up survey of the asteroid Bennu. It is
the part of NASA’s New Frontiers Programme. ‘OSIRIS-REx’ was launched in
September 2016.
2. Study says Cyberattacks cost big firms USD 10.3 mn on an average in India
· Frost and Sullivan study commissioned
by Microsoft said that a large-sized organization in
India incurs an average of $10.3 million in economic losses
due to cyberattacks. It also said cyberattacks cost a mid-sized organisation an
average of $11,000 in economic losses. Cybersecurity attacks
have also resulted in job losses across different functions in more than three
in five (64%) organisations that have experienced an incident during the survey
period.

1. Italy Wins Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta 2018
· Team Italy
won the Admiral’s Cup 2018. The ninth edition of
‘Admirals Cup’ Sailing Regatta (2018) concluded with a glittering
closing ceremony at Ettikulam Beach at Indian Naval Academy (INA),
Ezhimala. Team Singapore was the Runners-Up and Team
USA came third. The host country team (Indian Naval Academy)
finished fourth in the overall position of Admiral’s Cup 2018.
